Why is English so hard to spell and why are so many words for the same thing? The answers to these questions may find in the history of the language’s development. English often borrow words from other languages, and usually changed the spelling and pronunciation slightly. This way is part of the long history of the English that has had substantial influence from a variety of tongues throughout the centuries.
The Celtic peoples were the earliest known residents that are called England today. The languages that they spoke were extent, as dialects of Welsh, Gaelic and Breton. But they are not like English, as we know it today. In 55 B.C., Caesar ruled and extended the Roman Empire which Roman invaded the island. The conquerors brought Latin to the Celtic tribes. In the 5th and 6th centuries, the Jutes from present-day Denmark, the Saxons and Angles from today’s Germany, composed of the Anglo-Saxon society. At that time, the language mixed the Latin spoken by the local Celtics and the languages of three immigrants.
Later, a unique Anglo-Saxon blended and leaded the language and culture. So English and the name England originated from a Germanic tribe, the Angles. There were many words coming from the Anglo-Saxon and some words were also about the agriculture. An estimated 4,500 Old English words are still commonly used today. By the 6th most Europe was influenced by Christianity. The Christian texts were written in Latin or Greek because many places lacked of letters. These two languages brought many new scripts into Old English. Another major infusion of words came from Viking invaders in the 8th and 9th centuries. The final conquest in 1006 was a major impact on the English language. The Normans’ military won the Anglo-Saxons in France. The Normans French gave many words to English relating to government, law and the lifestyle of the upper class. Many French word related to cooking also enriched English and more than 10,000 English words come from the French that brought to England by the Normans.
In 15th and 16th centuries, many words were influx in English containing classical studies of art, philosophy, rhetoric, science and literature of the ancient Latins and Greeks. Some experts estimated nearly 12,000 words were added to English during the Renaissance period .By the 17th century the UK colonized many places with its boats went its language. In America, Canada South Africa, Australia, India, Kenya, Belize and Hong Kong, showed that the influence of English on these societies.
When English reached the far corners on Earth, there were no English words to describe many things encountered abroad so the foreign words were soon adopted. The English language borrowed from Chinese because the British Empire had colonized Hong Kong. It may be difficult to find any language in the world contributing to English. Over one million words in English expresses and makes it a beautiful language. English is flexible in adoption of foreign words and ideas. Speakers are also free to articulate their meaning while they are talking in English.

A Full Box of Kisses
The story happened long time ago. A man punished his daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper because money was tight. He didn’t know his daughter prepared a gift to him. Receiving it, he felt embarrassed and opened it. He didn’t find anything in the box; therefore, he yelled at her. She explained to him that she blew kisses into it. He kept the box by his bed for years; he imagined the kiss and remembered the love of the daughter who put them in the box.

Skinny Model
Skinny Models
One of Spain's most prestigious fashion shows has agreed to ban overly skinny models from taking part. The organisers of Madrid Fashion Week are using the Body Mass Index - a calculation based on height and weight - to reject models that are too thin. This report from Danny Wood:
The Spanish fashion industry is taking a stand against waif thin models. Madrid Fashion Week may not be equal to the catwalks of Paris or New York, but organisers are turning away women they say are too underweight. Last year's fashion parade led to protests from medical associations and women's rights groups, who complained that the participants were unhealthily skinny.
In response to pressure from the local government, the Association of Fashion Designers has agreed to use a calculation known as the Body Mass Index, based on weight and height to reject excessively thin models from this year's show. The World Health Organisation says a person's BMI should be between eighteen-and-a-half and about twenty-five. Organisers of Madrid Fashion Week have decided to ban underweight models who have a BMI of less than eighteen.
The Association of Fashion Designers says thirty per cent of would be participants fail this test, including Spanish top model, Esther Canadas, who reportedly has a BMI of fourteen. At this year's fashion week, models as thin as Esther Canadas will be offered medical treatment. Madrid's local government says it wants to set a more positive, healthy image of beauty for teenagers to follow. Spain's Anorexia and Bulimia Association says if designers refuse to follow these voluntary restrictions the government should legislate to ban thin models.

A Sewing Machine
My mother has had a sewing machine since she was about 18 years old. When she was a senior high school student, she was not interested in the courses, which she had to study. Therefore, she decided to drop out the school and learned how to design and sew the clothes. The sewing machine was a gift from my grandfather.
The sewing machine is older than my age and is still in my house. There are two small cabinets on the right and left, which are full of all kinds of color spools of thread. The head of the sewing machine is made of iron and plastic. There is a platform on which my mother can darn the pants by a sewing machine. There are two iron pillars to hold the machine. With the electricity, there is a pedal on which my mother treads to start sewing the clothes.
When my mother has free time, she will buy the fabric and design the shirts, pants. She occasionally designs the clothes for me. She also uses a sewing machine to shorten our pants. The sewing machine is very important to her because it is unique and special in her heart.

Winter Vacation
Last semester, I was an evening-program student of the STUT University. But I thought it was too difficult to work in the daytime and study in the evening. So before the winter vacation beginning, I took the transfer exam of the STUT University. Finally, I passed the the transfer exam and I quitted my job in February.
My last job was a cram-school teacher. I taught the fourth and fifth grades students who studied at Elementary School. My colleagues and I helped them finish their school-homework, and taught some new school classes, for example, Chinese, mathematics, etc. We also arranged some interesting classes, one of which was the broadcast which was like the program on the radio. We taught them how to write and present it. This experience was very good, interesting and painstaking. I also learned something far from the textbooks. According to this speical experience, I had more desire to become a teacher in the future.
During the Chinese New Year, our family did not have any plans to go to any vacation scenic. We thought the resorts must be overcrowded. So we decided to stay at home and played pokers or mah-jong. On the last of these holidays, I prepared and adjusted my emotion to start a new semester.
